Stanford Field Hockey Shuts Down Miami

Stanford, Calif. -- Stanford returned home after a long road trip in Missouri to face Miami (Ohio) in the home opener. Stanford ended the two-game losing streak by shutting down the Redhawks in a 4-0 victory.

Sophomore midfielder Amrit Chima led off the scoring for the Cardinal with 16:26 left in the first half. Sophomore forward Amanda Billmyer recorded her fifth goal on the year with 12 seconds remaining in the first half to bring the halftime score to 2-0. Junior Melissa Stai tallied the Cardinal's third goal on an assist from Chima and freshman Dani Guernsey scored her first collegiate goal to bring Stanford to the final score of 4-0.

Goalkeepers Rebecca Shapiro and Emily Zander had an easy day as the offense dominated the game. Zander recorded her first collegiate save while the duo recorded the fourth shutout of the year. The Cardinal held Miami to one penalty corner and seven shots in the game.

Stanford will remain on The Farm for the rest of the month with games against Boston College on Friday, Sept. 8 and Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 10.
