Oct. 14, 2000

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's Noor Dawood scored the game's only goal with 25:48 remaining and the Cardinal defense held Pennsylvania without a shot in the second half en route to a 1-0 victory this afternoon.

Stanford, which has now won two straight, improves to 7-9. Pennsylvania falls to 2-8.

After a scoreless first half in which Penn held the advantage in shots 4-3, Stanford dominated the second period. The Cardinal outshot the Quakers 9-0 after intermission and held a 7-0 advantage in penalty corners (8-0 for the game). Stanford broke through with 25:48 remaining off a penalty corner. Junior Melissa Stai took a hard shot which deflected off a Penn defender and to Dawood, who drilled a shot to the right corner for the game-winning goal.

Stanford junior goalkeeper Rebecca Shapiro, the reigning NorPac Co-Defensive Player of the Month, made three saves while posting her sixth shutout victory of the season. Penn keeper Carrie Wilhelm finished with six saves, five in the second half.

The Cardinal is next in action on Saturday, October 21, when it travels to Pacific for a 2:00 p.m. NorPac Conference game against the Tigers.
