Stanford Field Hockey Defeats Georgetown 2-0

Washington, DC -- Stanford (5-6 Overall, 3-2 NorPac) handed the 18th-ranked Georgetown Hoyas (8-1) their first loss of the season in a 2-0 victory that marks the Cardinal's fifth shutout win of the season. The Cardinal also recorded two shutouts that ended in penalty strokes.

Sophomore midfielder Christina Williams capitalized on two penalty corners and scored both goals for the Cardinal on assists from junior Erica Swesey. The first goal came with 25:57 remaining in the first half and the second was recorded less than three minutes later with 23:40 left.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Shapiro, who was named the NorPac Co-Defensive Player of the Month yesterday, added four more saves to bring her season total to 70.

Stanford continues its stay in the nation's capital with a trip to suburban College Park, MD on Friday, October 6 for a 6 pm match-up against the number-one ranked and defending National Champion Maryland Terrapins.
