Men's Water Polo Team Falls In MPSF Playoffs

Nov. 24, 2000

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - The Stanford water polo team stayed with top-ranked UC Irvine in the first period, tying the game at 1-1, but the Anteaters erupted for eight straight goals to take a 9-1 lead with 6:32 in the fourth period.

The Cardinal mounted a small rally but it was too late as UC Irvine posted a 10-6 victory over eighth-ranked Stanford in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Friday at the Los Alamitos Aquatics Center.

The Cardinal, earlier in the day, were led by a career-high five goals from Jeff Nesmith as Stanford defeated UC Santa Barbara, 10-8, to earn the eighth-seed in the MPSF playoffs.

Peter Hudnut added two goals for the Cardinal.

The Cardinal will face Long Beach State on Saturday (11/25/00) at 1:00 p.m. in consolation play.
