HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Stanford women's tennis team won five of six singles matches and swept the doubles matches en route to an 8-1 win over Hawaii last Thursday.
Sophomore Laura Granville (Chicago, IL), the top-ranked player in the ITA Rankings, defeated Nina Wenger 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Freshman Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) won her first collegiate dual match at No. 2 singles, defeating Sofia Hoglund 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ) was a winner over Suzie Saunders 6-0, 6-1 while Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV) defeated Lynn Novack 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) picked up her first collegiate win as well, defeating Stacy Hakikawa 6-2, 6-2. Hawaii's only win came at the No. 6 spot where Polina Kravets defeated Stanford freshman Lizzy Bennett (Santa Barbara, CA) 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles play, the Cardinal won all three matches led by Granville and Lastra's 8-1 win at the No. 1 spot. Anderson and Tokuda picked up an 8-2 win over Hoglund and Jennifer Oshita while Barnikow and Bennett won their match 8-5 over Saunders and Novack.
Stanford (1-0) is idle until the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in January.
