HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Stanford women's golf team shot a 10-over par 298 and is in a three-way tie for sixth place after the first day of the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational. The three-day, 12-team tournament, which features each of the nation's top 11 squads, is being held at the Par 72, 6,257-yard Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes.
Duke, ranked No. 1 in the Golf World College Coaches Poll, is in first place after setting a tournament record with a four-under-par 284. The Blue Devils have a seven stroke lead over No. 6 Auburn (291) and an eight shot lead over No. 8 Texas (292). Stanford is even with both No. 3 USC and No. 10 Purdue.
Stanford senior Hilary Homeyer, gunning for her fourth consecutive top-20 finish, shot a one-under-par 71 and is tied for fifth place, three strokes behind the leader. Senior Stephanie Keever used a 34 over the back nine to finish in a tie for 17th with a one-over-par 73.
Freshman Angela Rho finished tied for 38th with a 76, and the Cardinal also received solid performances from sophomore Kim Rowton, who tied for 44th (78, +6), while junior Jessica Belskis checked in tied for 57th (83, +11).
