Fifth-Ranked Stanford Water Polo Team Downed By Second-Ranked USC

LOS ANGELES- The second-ranked USC water polo team exploded for five goals in the second period to break open a 1-1 match and cruise to an 11-6 victory over fifth-ranked Stanford in a non-league game on Sunday at McDonald's Swim Stadium. USC's Stever O'Rourke recorded a career-high five goals as the Trojans upped their record to 17-4, while the Cardinal fell to 10-10. Todd Snider scored two goals to lead five Stanford scorers.

A day earlier, Stanford lost a 10-3 decision to top-ranked UCLA at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena. UCLA's duo of Sean Kern and Matt Flesher scored three goals each to lead the Bruins. Flesher scored two of UCLA's three first-period goals. Snider, Jeff Nesmith and Mark Amott scored for the Cardinal.
