SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore pitcher Maureen LeCocq pitched a perfect game as the No. 15 Stanford softball team won its fourth game of the Campbell/Cartier Classic with a 2-0 win over No. 22 Long Beach State Saturday night at the Poway Sportsplex. The Cardinal is 12-0 on the year, while the 49ers drop to 4-9. Stanford, which is off to its best start in school history is a perfect 4-0 in the tournament.

LeCocq faced the minimum number of batters and retired all 21 49ers that came to the plate. She ended the game in fashion by striking out the side in the seventh inning. LeCocq finished with five strikeouts and moved her record to 4-0. It was her second complete game of the year and first career perfect game.

Stanford scored all the runs it would need in the third inning as it put two runs on the board with four base hits. Michelle Thiry led off the inning with a single up the middle. The 49ers got two quick outs, but the Cardinal rattled off three consecutive singles to take the lead. Sarah Beeson and Kira Ching each had RBI singles in the inning. They both went 2-for-3. Jessica Mendoza had a base hit and a run while Thiry was 2-for-2 with one run scored.

Stanford will play its final game of the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Sunday at noon against Cal State Northridge.
