SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Stanford (6-0) took down UC Santa Cruz 30-27, 30-17, 30-22 at West Field House tonight. The Slugs stayed close throughout the first game, but struggled during the second game, hitting -.061 (8k, 10e, 33 ta). Stanford capitalized, winning that game 30-17 and stayed strong to close out the match with a win in the third game. The Slugs ended the evening with a .110 hitting percentage, while the Cardinal garnered a .270 mark for the match.
Curt Toppel and William Curtis both reached double-digits in kills, recording 13 and 11 respectively. Toppel finished the night with a .440 hitting percentage (13k, 2e, 25 ta) and a dig, while Brett Youngberg added 6 kills and 3 service aces to give the Cardinal a solid victory on the UC Santa Cruz home floor.
The Cardinal returns to action on Sat., Feb. 10 when Stanford travels to Malibu for a rematch against the Pepperdine Waves. The match is set to start at 3 p.m. On Jan. 21, Stanford defeated then-No. 1 Pepperdine 3-2.
