STANFORD, Calif. --The No. 5-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team defeated No. 13 Oregon State in a Pac-10 dual tonight at Burnham Pavilion, bringing the Cardinal's record to 10-3 overall, 4-1 in the Pac-10. Stanford was consistent throughout the night, filling out the top three in the All-Around and claiming the top spots in three individual events. The team set a new season record on the floor exercise, securing a 49.600, with four scores at or above a 9.900. Freshman Robin Phelps had a record-setting evening, breaking her career-best All-Around score, tying her beam score and setting a new floor score.
Stanford secured its two-point margin of victory over the Beavers with an impressive showing on the floor. Stanford set a new season record in the event, while Lise L?veill? and Lindsay Wing shared the top-spot (9.950). Wing (39.650) captured her fourth All-Around title of the year as Phelps (39.500) finished second and Caroline Fluhrer (39.300) trailed them for third place.
Phelps stood out tonight as she tied her career-high score of 9.825 on the beam and set a new high for herself on the floor with a 9.925. Phelps' mark of 39.500 shatters her previous career-best of 38.650 in the All-Around.
Stanford returns to action tomorrow night - Sat., March 3, when it hosts No. 18 Brigham Young in a dual meet at Burnham Pavilion. The meet will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will mark senior Jen Exaltacion's last home meet as a member of the Cardinal squad. Exaltacion is nationally-ranked on the beam, holding the No. 5 spot with an average score of 9.870. The Ontario, Canada native has been a major contributor for the Cardinal during her four years on The Farm. Exaltacion holds the Stanford record on the beam (along with teammate Wing) with a 9.975 and she and Fluhrer share this season's best mark on the bars (9.950). Stanford will then travel to Utah next weekend to face the Cougars in Provo.
