BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 11 Stanford men's gymnastics team took fourth place in the team competition of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, hosted by Cal at Haas Pavilion. The Cardinal scored a 203.550 while Oklahoma won the competition with a 217.725. Cal (213.925) finished second and Nebraska (205.325) took third.
Friday's competition consisted of the team and all around. The individual competition will take place on Saturday. The top eight finishers in each event (with a maximum of two gymnasts from one school) qualified for tomorrow's individual competition. Stanford will have four gymnasts competing in the individuals.
Junior David Durante placed fifth in the all around competition with a score of 50.550. He will compete tomorrow in the rings after qualifying with a score of 8.450 and the horizontal bar where he scored an 8.850. He also scored an 8.600 on the floor exercise 8.750.
Freshman Dan Gill was sixth in the all around with a 50.500. He placed 10th on the floor exercise, scoring a 9.000 to qualify for the individuals. Gill scored an 8.550 on both the vault and parallel bars.
Sophomore Matt McLean placed sixth in the all around and was the top Cardinal as he qualified for the individual competition in three different events. He finished fifth on the vault with an 8.950 and ninth on the parallel bars with an 8.650. McLean also scored an 8.650 on the floor.
Junior Cade Raggio qualified in two events, the parallel bars and the horizontal bar. Raggio scored an 8.700 on the p-bars to finish eighth and had an 8.850 on the h-bar.
Sophomore Paul O'Leary was 18th in the all around. His top score was an 8.800 on the vault. Senior Reshad Garan scored an 8.350 on the rings while junior David Ludlow had a 7.500 on the high bar. Kevin Chow had an 8.350 on the pommel horse.
Saturday's competition begins at 7:00 p.m.
