EASTON, Pa. - The Stanford University women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games with a convincing 11-6 victory over host Lafayette College on Sunday afternoon at Metzgar Fields. The Cardinal is now 8-1 on the season, while the Leopards fell to 3-3.
Stanford put Lafayette away early by jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first 22 minutes of the match. Senior Katharine Barnes (Northhampton, MA/Deerfield Academy) put the Cardinal on top just 1 minute, 46 seconds into the match, and Stanford would add two more in the next 3:14 to take a 3-0 lead at the five-minute mark. The Cardinal went on to lead 8-2 at the half, and never looked back.
Sophomore Liz Lanese (St. Louis, MO/Mary Institue & St. Louis CDS) scored Stanford's second and fifth goals in the early onslaught, and assisted on the third, to lead the winners. Lanese finished with a match-high three goals and one assist, while junior Liz Britt (Summit, NJ/Summit HS) and freshman Noor Dawood (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) added two goals apiece.
Stanford goalie Rachael Neumann (Woodbury, NY/Syosset HS) picked up her eighth win in net by recording 13 saves.
The Cardinal, which is in the midst of a three-game Spring Break trip, next visits Cornell on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. (PT). The trip concludes at Harvard on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. (PT). The Cardinal's next home game is Saturday, April 7 against California at 1:00 p.m. at Maloney Field.
