Ithaca, NY - In the second game of their Spring Break trip the Stanford Women's Lacrosse team lost a match against the Cornell Big Red 15-5 on Schoellkopf Field. This ended the Cardinal's four-game win streak after coming off an 11-6 win over Lafayette on Sunday.
At halftime Cornell led 9-0, but Stanford refused to give up, with sophomore Liz Lanese (St. Louis, MO/Mary Institute & St. Louis CDS) putting in a goal at 2:25 into the second half. Freshman Abbi Hills (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Academy) also added a goal at 14:03 into the half. Leading the Cardinal was senior tri-captain Katharine Barnes (Northhampton, MA/Deerfield Academy) with 2 goals in the last three minutes of the game.
On the defensive end, tri-captains junior Caroline Osterwise (Villanova, PA/Harriton HS) and senior Dana Katter (Sudbury, MA/ Lincoln-Sudbury RHS) each had 2 caused turnovers, Osterwise also scored the last goal for the Card with 1:09 remaining in the game. Goalkeeper Rachael Neumann (Woodbury, NY/Syosset HS) recorded 8 saves in goal, bringing her to 107 saves this season.
Stanford has one game remaining in the Spring Break trip, they will face Harvard on Thursday at 10 a.m. (PT). The Cardinal returns home to take on the California Golden Bears on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. on Maloney Field.
