NO. 20 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past UC Davis

Davis, CA - The Cardinal women's lacrosse team, ranked 20th by the IWLCA, handed the UC Davis Aggies a 7-4 loss this afternoon at Aggie Field. Stanford handed UC Davis a 10-2 loss earlier this season when the Aggies visited The Farm on Feb. 17. The Cardinal improved to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the WWLL, Davis fell to 6-4 overall, 2-3 WWLL.

Stanford put the first point on the board today as senior tri-captain Katharine Barnes (Northhampton, MA/Deerfield Academy) recorded the first goal on an unassisted shot at the 27:19 mark. Davis rallied to even the score at 1-1, but Stanford chalked up four goals before the ten minute mark. Junior Caroline Osterwise (Villanova, PA/Harriton HS) scored twice for the Cardinal before sophomore Lauren Dietrich (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights HS) tallied two goals to close out the first half and put Stanford up 6-2.

With a four-point lead heading into the second half, the Cardinal stepped up its defensive pressure to maintain the lead and secure the win. Osterwise added her third goal of the game, while the Aggies tacked two goals on to give Stanford the 7-4 victory.

Starting goalkeeper Rachael Neumann (Woodbury, NY/Syosset HS) finished with six saves while her counterpart on UC Davis, Jill Herschleb recorded nine. Stanford returns to action on Wednesday, April 18 with a 4 p.m. game against St. Mary's. Stanford previously defeated the Gaels in a tightly contested match, 9-8.
