New Hampshire Overpowers No. 20 Women's Lacrosse

April 21, 2001

Durham, NH - Stanford (11-4 overall, 6-0 WWLL) could not stop the force of the Wildcat offense today as New Hampshire (10-4 overall) delivered a 19-6 defeat. A trio of attackers for the Wildcats, Colleen Christopher, Jessie Groszkowski and Sue Yund, refused to let up on the Cardinal defense, scoring 6, 5 and 4 goals, respectively. After trailing 16-3 at halftime Stanford came back with boosted confidence and matched 3 goals for 3 goals in the second half, but could not overcome the deficit.

Freshman Abbi Hills (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Academy) tallied the first goal for the Cardinal, with 23:31 left in the first half, and the last goal, with 2:37 remaining in the game. Hills is now second for the Cardinal with 29 goals this season behind senior tri-captain Katharine Barnes (Northhampton, MA/Deerfield Academy) who had 1 goal against the Wildcats and has 38 season goals. Starting goalkeeper Rachael Neumann (Woodbury, NY/Syosset HS) made three saves and surrendered 11 goals before leaving the game at 17:30 into the first half. Freshman Sara Shamos (Denver, CO/Colorado Academy) played the remaining 42:30 of the game in goal, finishing with 5 saves and 8 goals allowed.

The Cardinal finished up WWLL play earlier this week with a 15-7 victory over St. Mary's (6-7 overall, 1-5 WWLL), marking its sixth consecutive conference win this season. This week's three-game road trip concludes tomorrow with a match against Boston College (4-9 overall) at 12pm (ET) at Alumni Stadium. Next weekend Stanford begins post-season play in Moraga, CA for the WWLL North Playoffs. They take on the St. Mary's Gaels for the third time this season, Saturday, April 28 at 12pm (PT).
