Siobhan Cropper, Misty Hyman, Adam Messner and Ryan Nelsen are the Cardinal recipients.

Walnut Creek, Calif. -- The Pac-10 Conference awarded 38 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom. Each recipient will receive a grant in the amount of $3,000. The 2001 scholarships will be awarded to four Stanford student-athletes: Siobhan Cropper (Women's Swimming & Diving), Misty Hyman (Women's Swimming & Diving), Adam Messner (Men's Swimming & Diving) and Ryan Nelsen (Men's Soccer).
Cropper (Trinidad, West Indies/St. Joseph's Convent), a four-time NCAA Champion and 13-time All-American, had an outstanding senior campaign. Returning from the Sydney Olympics as a part of the Trinidad & Tobago team, Cropper tacked on two national championships title in 2001 as a part of the 200 medley and 400 medley squads to bring her career total to four.
Hyman (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain) capped off a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics with an impressive showing for her final year on The Farm. She won three NCAA events, including her final collegiate event - the 200-yd butterfly. Hyman also earned seven All-American honors at the meet and became only the second women's swimmer in Stanford history to earn the maximum 28 All-American honors over four years.
Messner (Ann Arbor, MI/Dexter), an 18-time All-American and two-time NCAA Champion in the 200m butterfly, was a tri-captain of the 2001 squad. He ranks 3rd in school history in the 200 free, 2nd in the 200 fly and 2nd in the 500 free.
Nelsen (Christchurch, New Zealand/Greensboro College), a tri-captain of the 2000 squad, was a member of the New Zealand Under-23 team that competed to go to the Sydney Olympics but lost to South Africa in the qualifier. He helped lead the Cardinal to its 18-3-1 record (tying the school record for most wins and setting a new record for winning percentage .841).
To be eligible for a Pac-10 postgraduate scholarship a student athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.00 or its equivalent, be in his or her final season of intercollegiate athletics eligibility, have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team, intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time graduate student, and have behaved both on and off the field in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. Participation in campus and community service activities and demonstration of leadership qualities also will be taken into consideration.
