Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford University Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation has signed a sponsorship agreement with Nike that will outfit Cardinal men's and women's teams with footwear, apparel and equipment for Stanford's student-athletes, coaches and teams. The announcement was made today by Ted Leland, Stanford University Director of Athletics.
"The Athletic Department is very proud to be continuing our sponsorship relationship with Nike," said Leland. "We greatly appreciate Nike's commitment to outfit Stanford's teams with apparel and equipment. This helps ensure that the Department of Athletics can maintain its commitment to the highest academic and athletic standards for Stanford student-athletes, both on and off the field."
Today's announcement expands the sponsorship to include sports beyond football and basketball. "It will benefit substantially a majority of Stanford student-athletes," said Leland.
Stanford University has won the Sears Directors' Cup, which recognizes the nation's top overall college sports program, seven years in a row.
"First and foremost, this sponsorship supports Stanford student-athletes," said Stanford University Provost John Etchemendy. "We are particularly pleased that student-athletes in the some of the less visible sports will benefit from Nike's contribution of clothing and equipment."
