Westwood, Ca - Tony Azevedo continues to be a dominant force for the top-ranked Cardinal water polo team as the freshman scored three goals to lead unbeaten Stanford to a 10-6 victory over the two-time defending NCAA champion UCLA Bruins on Sunday at the Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
Following three goals the previous day to lead Stanford to a 10-5 victory againstsecond-ranked USC, Azevedo increased his season goal total to 15 against the Bruins.
Azevedo scored twice in the first quarter as Stanford led at the first break, 3-2. Azevedo added a third-period goal to give Stanford an unsurmontable 8-3 lead after three stanzas.
Seven different Stanford players scored goals, including two by senior Onno Koelman.
Two-time All-American Nick Ellis collected a season-high 12 saves.
The Stanford victory knocked the Bruins from the ranks of the unbeaten as UCLA fell to 4-1. UCLA had won ten straight games dating back to last year.
Stanford increased its record to 4-0.
Stanford travels to California on Oct. 6 (noon).
