Louisville, Kent. - Elizabeth Holtzman scored with 10:54 to go in the first "sudden victory" overtime to lift Ohio (3-0) to a 3-2 overtime victory over Stanford (2-3) in a neutral site NCAA field hockey game on Wednesday at Trager Stadium. The victory was the third in a row to open the season for the Bobcats, while the loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Cardinal.
Stanford had led 2-1 late in the second half after goals by Christina Williams and Noor Dawood, the first of the season for both players. Williams erased a 1-0 lead to tie the game when she scored on an assist by Erica Swesey with 19:18 remaining in regulation. Dawood gave the Cardinal a 2-1 lead when she tallied unassisted with 12:33 to go.
However, Ohio tied the score at 2-2 with only 1:45 remaining on an unassisted goal by Elizabeth Unger.
After a scoreless first half, Ohio's Andrea Voros scored the first goal of the game with 22:08 remaining to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Stanford's Rebecca Shapiro had four saves in goal.
Stanford will continue its season-long seven-game road trip when the Cardinal plays at Louisville on Thursday (4:00 p.m., ET).
