Stats

Austin, Texas - The No. 16 Stanford women's soccer team scored in the 108th minute to defeat No. 17 Texas 2-1 Sunday night at the Mike A. Myers Stadium. Sophomore Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) scored her second goal of the season in double overtime to give the Cardinal the victory.

After being outshot 20-10 in regulation, the Stanford defense kept the Longhorns quiet in both overtimes not allowing a single shot. The Cardinal managed four shots in the first four minutes of OT, but the ball sailed high and wide.

In the second overtime Stanford came out firing and Ward needed only three minutes to seal the 2-1 win. Ward collected the ball wide of the goal and shot the ball back across hitting the side netting.

Texas made its way into the scoring column first on a Kelly Wilson goal at 31:03, putting the Longhorns up 1-0 at halftime. Marcia Wallis (Los Gatos, CA) tied the game on her third goal of the year at the 57:47 mark from a pass by Ward. Wallis then beat both the defender and the Texas keeper to knot the score at 1-1.

Goalkeeper Carrie Walsh (Los Gatos, CA) came up with three huge saves in the 63rd minute to hold the score at 1-1. Walsh had a tremendous game, recording a career-high 14 saves.

Stanford returns home after going 3-0 in a 17-day road trip to face Notre Dame in its season home opener. The Cardinal will face the Fighting Irish Sunday, September 16 at 1 p.m. on Maloney Field.
