Stanford, Calif. -- UC Davis (8-2 overall, 3-2 Pac-10) defeated Stanford (3-6 overall, 0-4 Pac-10) tonight at Burnham Pavilion, 26-9. The Aggies made a strong opening statement, running out to a 22-0 lead, but the Cardinal battled back taking three of the last four individual bouts.
UC Davis controlled the first half of the match with four decisions, one major decision and a pin. The Cardinal refused to give up, and tallied three decisions to close out the meet. Team leader Justin Walker (Otis Orchards, WA/East Valley) tallied his 18th win of the season by defeating Aggie veteran Urijah Faber, 6-3 in the 133 pound class. Levi Weikel-Magden (Boardman, OR/Riverside) and Isaiah Camp (Hubbard, OR/ N. Marion) both recorded decisions to bring the Cardinal team total to nine points.
Stanford returns to action on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in Burham Pavilion when Fresno State comes to The Farm for a non-conference meet. The Cardinal will then travel to San Francisco State for the All Cal Invitational on Sat., Feb. 3.
