BAKERSFIELD, CALIF --Stanford (3-7 overall, 0-5 Pac-10) headed south today to take on the Cal State Bakersfield 'Runners (8-3 overall, 3-0 Pac-10), but were handed a 33-8 loss. CSUB also defeated Portland State earlier in the day, 29-13.
Team leader, sophomore Justin Walker (Otis Orchards, WA/East Valley) recorded his 19th win over Joe Garcia in a 10-3 decision in the 133-pound weight class. Junior Levi Weikel-Magden notched his ninth win of the season at the 141-pound division with a technical fall over Zhon Kuraspediani at 6:11 bringing the Cardinal within three points of CSUB at 11-8. The 'Runners closed out the meet with five wins, bringing the final score to 33-8.
The Cardinal returns home to face Fresno State on Fri., Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion. Stanford will then travel to San Francisco State for the All Cal Invitational on Sat., Feb. 3 for the all day event.
