Stanford, Calif. - Senior Erica Swesey notched her first career hat trick and senior goalkeeper Rebecca Shapiro recorded her third straight shutout to lift Stanford (6-6, 2-0 NorPac) to a 3-0 victory over Pacific (3-7, 2-3 NorPac) in a NorPac contest at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf on Sunday. The victory kept Stanford in sole possession of first place in the NorPac West Division and was the third straight win overall for the Cardinal. Pacific dropped its third straight contest.
Swesey converted the first of her three goals on her second penalty stroke of the season for the game's first goal with 14:56 remaining in the first half. Swesey's second goal was unassisted with 8:38 to go before halftime. She finished the game's scoring with an assist from freshman Eleanor Morgan with 28:36 remaining in the game.
Shapiro played the entire game behind the net for the Cardinal to record her third straight shutout, as well as her fourth of the season and 19th of her career. Shapiro saved seven of Pacific's nine shots.
The Cardinal outshot Pacific, 15-9.
Pacific goalkeepers Lisa Beach (four saves) and Gina Sadler (two saves) combined to stop six of Stanford's shots.
Stanford will next be in action when the Cardinal travels to Pacific for a NorPac game on Saturday, October 20 (1:00 p.m.).
