Stanford, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team won its ninth consecutive home match tonight with a 3-0 sweep of Washington. Game scores were 30-20, 30-11, 30-26.
The Cardinal improved their record to 15-2, 8-1 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies fall to 10-9 on the year, 3-7 in league action.
Stanford hit a season-high .432 for the match while holding Washington to a .184 hitting percentage.
The Cardinal jumped out to a 12-6 lead in game one on a kill by Ogonna Nnamani and reached 16-7 on a block by Nnamani and Sara McGee. Stanford stretched the lead to 11 points at 26-15 on a kill by Logan Tom. A kill by Tara Conrad got Stanford to game point at 29-19. Another Conrad kill gave the Cardinal the 30-20 victory. Stanford hit .385 in game one, committing only one hitting error (16-1-39).
The Cardinal dominated game two, opening up a 14-2 lead on a kill by Nnamani. A service ace by Ashley Ivy put Stanford up 19-4. Jennifer Harvey notched a kill at 24-7 while a kill by Sara Dukes gave the Cardinal game point at 29-11. A Sara McGee kill sealed the win at 30-11. The Cardinal hit .514 in game two while Nnamani notched eight kills.
Washington came out fired up in game three taking a 6-4 lead on a Cardinal hitting error. They extended the lead to 12-8 on a Stanford service error. The Cardinal fought back to tie the game at 14-all on a Huskie ball handling error. Washington came back to take the 20-17 lead on a Lisa Underhill kill. Stanford would rally off five consecutive points to go up 22-20. A Washington hitting error put the Cardinal up 27-22 and a kill by Ashley Ivy gave Stanford match point at 29-24. A kill by Logan Tom gave the Cardinal the 30-26 victory.
Stanford was led by Ogonna Nnamani's match-high 16 kills and Logan Tom's 12 digs. Tara Conrad added seven kills and four blocks while Sara McGee had eight kills and a match-high five blocks. Emily Lawrence added two service aces and six digs for the Cardinal.
Stanford is next in action on Saturday, October 20, hosting Washington State in Maples Pavilion at 7 p.m.
