Stanford, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team notched its eighth win over a ranked opponent this season with a 3-2 victory over No. 17 Pacific tonight in Maples Pavilion. Game scores were 30-17, 26-30, 27-30, 30-24, 15-12.

The Cardinal improve to 17-2 on the year while the Tigers fall to 17-6 overall.

Stanford dominated game one, jumping out to the 14-2 lead on an Ogonna Nnamani kill. The Cardinal continued to roll reaching 19-6 on a block by Sara McGee and Robyn Lewis and reached game point on a Pacific ball handling error. Stanford closed out the game on a Nnamani kill at 30-17.

Pacific came out fired up in game two which quickly became a back and forth battle between the two teams. The game remained close until Pacific, down by two at 22-24, rolled off four consecutive points to go up 26-24 and force a Stanford timeout. After a Cardinal block by Logan Tom and Tara Conrad, the Tigers pushed through three more points to reach game point at 29-25. Pacific won the game 30-26 on a Stanford service error.

The two teams kept game three close, including six ties by the time they had reached 12-all. With Stanford trailing by one at 17-18, Pacific went on a five-point run to go up 23-17. The Cardinal fought back and closed to within one at 24-25 before the Tigers stretched the lead to three at 27-24. The two teams traded points until Pacific won 30-27.

Game four mirrored games two and three with neither team gaining a huge advantage until Stanford went on a five point run to go up 25-19, forcing a Pacific timeout.The Cardinal got a timely block by Ashley Ivy and Sara McGee to go up 28-22. A kill by Ogonna Nnamani got Stanford to game point at 29-24 and McGee closed out the game at 30-24 with a kill, forcing a fifth and deciding game.

With the game tied at 8-all, the two teams traded points until Stanford got back-to-back kills to go up 13-11 and force a Pacific timeout. After a Tiger kill by Jennifer Joines, the Cardinal reached match-point on a Nnamani kill. A Pacific hitting error would give Stanford the 15-12 win.

Stanford was led by Logan Tom's season-high 28 kills and match-high 16 digs. Ogonna Nnamani contributed 18 kills and three blocks. Senior Tara Conrad notched a season-high 16 kills (16-1-31) and 11 blocks. Sara McGee added eight blocks on the night.

The Cardinal outblocked Pacific 20-8 for the match while hitting .268 to the Tigers' .130.

Stanford is next in action on Friday, October 25 against California in Maples Pavilion at 7 p.m.
