Stanford, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team ran its consecutive home winning streak to 12 matches with a 3-0 sweep of Bay Area rival California tonight in Maples Pavilion. Game scores were 30-16, 30-18, 30-20.
The Cardinal improve to 18-2, 10-1 in the Pac-10 while the Golden Bears drop to 7-12, 2-9 in league play.
Stanford jumped out to a 14-8 lead in game one on a Logan Tom service ace. With the Cardinal leading 16-12, Stanford went on a eight point run to go up 24-12. The Cardinal continued to cruise reaching game point on a Tom kill at 29-15. Tara Conrad closed out game one with a kill at 30-16. Stanford hit .469 as a team in the first game while holding Cal to a .125 clip.
After the Cardinal took a 9-5 lead in game two, California strung together five consecutive points to go up 10-9, forcing a Stanford timeout. With the Cardinal down 10-11, Stanford rallied off seven straight points to go up 18-12. They extended the lead to 23-14 on a Golden Bear hitting error. A service ace by Tara Conrad at 27-18 forced a Cal timeout. Stanford pushed on scoring the next three points to close out the game, 30-18. The Cardinal hit at a stellar .655 clip (21-2-29), committing only two hitting errors.
Stanford opened game three on a five point run and reached 10-4 on a Cal ball handling error. A kill by Ogonna Nnamani at 18-9 forced a Golden Bear timeout. The Cardinal continued to roll going up 21-9 on a kill by freshman Jennifer Hucke. A kill by Sara Sandrik at 28-18 forced another Cal timeout. Middle blocker Jennifer Harvey tallied a kill at 29-19 to get Stanford to game and match point. Another Hucke kill sealed the win for the Cardinal at 30-20.
Stanford was led by Logan Tom's 12 kills and Ogonna Nnamani's 11 kills. Middle blocker Tara Conrad notched 10 kills while hitting at a .533 clip. Fellow middle blocker Sara McGee had eight kills on nine attempts without an error (.889). Setter Robyn Lewis led the team with eight digs on the night. Nnamani notched a career-high four service aces as well.
California was led by Gabrielle Abernathy's seven kills and Heather Diers' match-high four blocks.
The Cardinal hit a season-high .464 (57-12-97) as a team and had 34 digs to California's 24 for the match.
