Stanford, Calif. - The third-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept No. 10 Colorado State, 3-0, tonight in Maples Pavilion before a crowd of 1,680. Game scores were 30-26, 30-22, 30-28.
The Cardinal improve to 26-2 on the year while the Rams drop to 25-3 overall.
The victory runs Stanford's winning streak to 12 consecutive matches and 16 at home. It also marks the 12th win over a ranked opponent this season for the Cardinal.
The Rams dominated the net in game one, taking the early 8-4 lead. Stanford closed to within one at 7-8 on a block by Ashey Ivy and Sara McGee. The Cardinal took the lead at 14-13 on a Logan Tom kill. The game remained close Stanford strung together four straight points to go up 24-21. The Cardinal pushed forward, forcing a CSU timeout at 27-23 and reached game point on an Ogonna Nnamani kill at 29-26. A service ace by Ivy gave Stanford the 30-26 win. The Rams outblocked the Cardinal 12-4 in game one despite the loss.
With game two tied at 11-all, Stanford went on a four point run to go up 15-11, forcing a Rams timeout. The Cardinal went up 20-12 on another Ashley Ivy ace, but CSU answered with three consecutive points to close within five. Stanford took the 25-18 lead on a Logan Tom block. With the Cardinal leading 26-22, Stanford strung together the final four points for the victory. Two consecutive Tom service aces would give Stanford game point and the win at 30-22. Ivy had six kills in game two to lead the Cardinal while Sara McGee had five.
The Rams jumped out to the early 10-6 lead and held Stanford at bay for most of the game. With CSU leading 24-20, Stanford took a timeout. After the two teams traded sideouts, the Cardinal got four quick points to tie the game up at 25-all. Stanford went up 28-26 on a block by Robyn Lewis and Sara McGee. The Cardinal reached game and match point on a McGee kill. A Logan Tom kill gave Stanford the 30-28 win.
The Cardinal was led by junior outside hitter Logan Tom's match-high 13 kills. Tara Conrad and Ogonna Nnamani each added 11 kills to the effort. Sara McGee led the team with five blocks on the night. Robyn Lewis had 43 assists, six digs and two blocks. Ashley Ivy contributed seven kills, two service aces, a match-high nine digs and two blocks.
Stanford closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 24 against Arizona State in Maples Pavilion at 1 p.m.
