Eugene, Ore. - The third-ranked Stanford Cardinal defeated Oregon 3-1 to continue its six-match winning streak Friday night in Eugene on McArthur Court. Game scores were 30-25, 29-31, 30-13, 30-18. The Cardinal were led by Ogonna Nnamani's 20 kills and Anna Robinson's career-high 56 assists.
After a 1-0 Oregon lead in the first game, Stanford rattled off three straight points on a block and two service aces by Anna Robinson to put the Cardinal up 3-1. Stanford held its largest advantage 12-8 behind kills from Sara McGee and Robinson. The game stayed close with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead, until Stanford won the last three points. Ogonna Nnamani put Stanford up 28-25 on her kill, while a Michelle Chambers ' service ace and a Logan Tom kill gave the Cardinal the game, 30-25. McGee tallied five kills and hit .429 for the game.
With Oregon leading 7-4 to open game two, Stanford rallied back to tie the game at 8-8. The Cardinal then took the lead on a Sara McGee kill and a block by Logan Tom to go up 11-9. The game then went back-and-fourth, with the Ducks holding a two-point advantage. A kill and a block by Tara Conrad tied the game at 28-28. Oregon won the next point, but the Cardinal were able to fight off the game point on a Tom kill. The Ducks went on to win the next two points to win the game 31-29. As a team, the Cardinal hit .222 to Oregon's .171. Ogonna Nnamani and Tom each recorded six kills in the match.
After the loss in game two the Cardinal came out of the break hot, jumping off to an 11-5 advantage. Kills by Ogonna Nnamani and Sara McGee extended the Stanford lead 14-6. With the score at 20-10, the Cardinal then rattled off the next seven points behind two service aces by Logan Tom and two kills by Nnamani. Stanford put the game away 30-13 on Nnamani's fifth kill of the game. The Cardinal hit a .560 clip in game three on 16 kills and served up four aces.
Leading two games to one, Stanford jumped out a 10-4 advantage to start the fourth game behind Ogonna Nnamani's three consecutive kills. Two kills by Logan Tom and one from Tara Conrad pushed the Cardinal lead to 22-14. Stanford then took advantage of several Duck miscues and a kill from Ashley Ivy to go up 26-16. A Nnamani kill and a block by Sara McGee and Ivy would seal the win for the Cardinal at 30-18..Stanford was led by freshman Ogonna Nnamani's 20 kills, five digs and two blocks. Junior Logan Tom added 17 kills, three service aces and 16 digs to the Cardinal effort. Sophomore Sara McGee recorded 12 kills on the night. Sophomore setter Anna Robinson had a career-high 56 assists, five kills, seven digs and two service aces.
Oregon was led by Monique Tobbagi's team-high 18 kills. Lindsay Closs added 10 kills and two blocks.
Stanford is next in action tomorrow, Saturday, November 3 against Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
