Stanford, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Logan Tom tallied a match-high 20 kills as the third-ranked Stanford Cardinal swept No. 15 Texas A&M 3-0 tonight in Maples Pavilion to earn a trip to San Diego, Calif. and a National Championship Semifinal match against Nebraska. Game scores were 30-21, 30-19, 30-20.
The Cardinal improve to 31-2 on the season while the Aggies end the year at 26-6.
Four Stanford players were named to the all-tournament team: senior middle blocker Tara Conrad, senior setter Robyn Lewis, sophomore middle blocker Sara McGee and tournament MVP, Logan Tom.
The Cardinal looked in control all three games despite falling behind in game one before rallying to win. Stanford hit .316 for the match including hitting .400 (15-3-30) in game two. Tough serving and solid blocking helped the Cardinal to the sweep as Stanford outblocked Texas A&M 15-6.
Stanford hit .316 for the match while Texas A&M was held to a .156 hitting percentage.
Tara Conrad notched eight kills and six blocks on the night while fellow middle Sara McGee had seven kills and a match-high nine blocks. Tom added a 13 digs and four blocks as well. Setter Robyn Lewis had 39 assists, seven digs and three blocks while rightside hitter Ashley Ivy tallied nine digs and five blocks.
Erin Lechler, who was also named to the all-tournament team, led the Aggies with 13 kills, followed by Brandi Mount's 12 kills. Michelle Cole had a match-high 15 digs while setter Jenna Moscovic tallied 30 assists.
Stanford will face No. 2 Nebraska, who defeated No. 7 Florida, 3-2, in the second semifinal match on Thursday, December 13 at approximately 8 p.m. PT at the Cox Arena in San Diego, Calif. No. 1 Long Beach will take on No. 4 Arizona at 6 p.m. in the first semifinal match.
