* In its 19th NCAA Regional appearance, Stanford now has a 52-20 all-timerecord. The Cardinal is 43-14 in 2001 and has a 25-4 record at SunkenDiamond.
* Stanford has now won 10 of its last 12 games. The victory broke Marist'sfour-game winning streak.
* Marist falls to 32-3-1 on the season. The Red Foxes are making theirthird NCAA Regional appearance (1997, 2000, 2001). Three of Marist's sixlosses in postseason play have been by two runs or less.
* Stanford's starting pitcher sophomore RHPJeremy Guthrie earned his 11thwin of the year. Guthrie went 7.1 innings alowing three runs on nine hitswith five strikeouts and one walk.
* After allowing two runs in the second inning, Guthrie shutout the RedFoxes through the following five innings.
* Marist's starting pitcher freshman LHP Chris Tracz got his first loss ofthe season. He is now 10-1. Tracz allowed four runs, two earned, on ninehits with three strikeouts and two walks.
* Freshman CF Sam Fuld led the Cardinal offensively going 2-for-3 with tworuns scored and two RBI. He knocked in the game-winning run on a suicidesqueeze play.
* The suicide squeeze play against Marist was ironic. The Red Foxes usedthat play to tie a game in their 1997 NCAA postseason game and used it againin their 2000 NCAA postseason win against McNeese State.
* Two Stanford players extended their hitting streaks. Junior 2B ChrisO'Riordan is now riding a nine-game hitting streak, while sophomore C RyanGarko kept his team and career-high 16-game hitting streak in tact.
* Junior 2B Chris O'Riordan's steal of third base in the bottom of theseventh inning was his team-high 16th stolen base of the season.
* Junior RHP Mike Wodnicki recorded his team-high sixth save of the season,striking out three in 1.2 innings of hitless relief.
* Senior CF Ryan Brady was the only Red Fox with more than one hit. He went2-for-3 with one run scored.
* Both teams left opportunities to score on the field. Stanford left ninemen on base, while Marist left six.
* For both Marist and Stanford, all but one starting player on each teamnotched at least one hit.
