Stanford, Ca - Tony Azevedo, a freshman and a member of the 2000 United States Olympic water polo team, collected five goals to lead top-ranked Stanford to a 12-9 victory over seventh-ranked UC Irvine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game on Sunday at the Avery Aquatic Complex.
Azevedo scored all of Stanford's three goals in the first period and added a goal each in the third and fourth period.
Azevedo, from Long Beach Wilson High School, now has nine goals in two games.
Brian Darrow, Pasi Dutton and Todd Snider each added two goals for the Cardinal.
Stanford will host UC San Diego on Friday, September 28, at 1:15 p.m.
