No. 12 Women's Gymnastics Upsets No. 7 Arizona

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 12 Stanford women's gymnastics improved its record to 3-1 by upsetting No. 7 Arizona 197.250-195.175. The Cardinal earned its third consecutive Pac-10 victory, while Arizona dropped to 6-2 overall with its first conference loss of the season.

Stanford outscored the Wildcats on three events and posted season-best totals on every event en route to a season-high total 197.250. The Cardinal broke out with a 49.175 on vault, besting the previous high of 48.800. Stanford also posted a 49.425 on bars, a 49.400 on bars and a 49.250 on floor to outdo Arizona. Stanford sophomore Caroline Fluhrer (Seattle, Wash.) notched a team high 39.025 in the All-Around to take second.

The Cardinal excelled on bars as senior Becky Meldrum (Mertztown, Penn.) snagged first with a 9.925. Fellow senior Kristin Jensen (Easton, Penn.) chalked up a 9.900 to tie for second and Fluhrer and sophomore Lindsay Wing (Cypress, Tex.) tied for fourth place with a 9.875.

Stanford jumped into the lead during the second half of the meet as consistency paid off for the Cardinal. Sophomore Lise L?veill? took first on the beam with a 9.950.

Stanford will be back at home on Sunday, Feb. 3 as the Cardinal face No. 15 Denver at 2 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
