No. 3 Women's Tennis Defeats UNLV, 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. - Third-ranked Stanford University (6-1) defeated 56th-ranked Nevada-Las Vegas (3-1) 6-1 in non-conference women's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.

The Lady Rebels gave the Cardinal all it could handle in singles competition, taking four of the six singles matches to three sets.

After easily winning the doubles point, Stanford received straight set singles victories from senior Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL/Boca Raton Prep) at No. 1 and sophomore Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge HS) at No. 3.

The remaining four singles matches went the distance, with Stanford prevailing in three of the four. Seniors Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV/Reno HS) and Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ/Clifton HS) prevailed in three sets, as did freshman Erin Burdette (Jackson, GA/Monroe Academy).

UNLV picked up its point on a three-set victory by senior Marianne Bakken at No. 6 singles.Stanford returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts the University of Hawaii at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center.
