No. 7 Women's Gymnastics Finishes In Second Place In Quad Meet

Gainesville, Fla. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team tallied a team score of 195.700 to defeat Penn State (195.325) and Illinois-Chicago (194.175), but fell Florida who put up a total of 196.900 to win the SunTrust Mardi Gras Madness Quad Meet on Friday night in front of 2,473 fans.

Stanford is now 6-3 overall after taking a break from Pac-10 competition this weekend.

The Cardinal did not win an event, but picked up two second-place finishes. Kendall Beck tied for second with Florida's Orley Szmuch on the vault, each posting a 9.925. Becky Meldrum recorded a 9.900 to place fourth on the uneven bars.

Lise Leveille and Lindsay Wing led Stanford on the beam. Leveille finished second with a 9.875, while Wing posted a 9.850 to tie for third. Shelly Goldberg was the Cardinal's top finisher on the floor exercise, tying for third with a 9.875.

Katy Herbert, the only Stanford athlete to compete in the all-around, placed sixth with a 38.250 total score. Penn State's Katie Rowland won the all-around with a 39.425.

The Cardinal will return home to face rival California next Friday night in Burnham Pavilion. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
