STANFORD, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford University won its sixth match in as many tries this season with a 6-1 non-conference victory over 44th-ranked Fresno State (2-4) on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center. Stanford has now won 74 straight home matches dating back to 1996.
The Cardinal captured five of the six singles matches, including three in straight sets.
Junior David Martin (Tulsa, OK/Boca Raton Prep), who is ranked 49th in the nation, avenged an early season loss with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Alex Krohn at No. 4 singles. Krohn upset Martin in a third set tiebreaker - 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) - in the third round of the Omni Hotels Northern California Regional Championships/Indoor Qualifier in October.
In doubles, Stanford's top duo of juniors Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS) and Martin improved to 14-3 on the season with an 8-0 win over Hector Almada and Greg Shearer at No. 1. Lipsky and Martin, who are ranked third in the nation, have won nine of their last 10.
The Cardinal continues its five-match homestand on Tuesday when it hosts the 51st-ranked San Diego Toreros (3-3) on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center.
