Stanford, Calif. - No. 7 Stanford women's gymnastics handed cross-bay rival California a 195.750-191.700 loss tonight in Burnham Pavilion. The Cardinal improve to 7-3 on the season, 4-1 in Pac-10 competition, while the Golden Bears drop to 5-5. Stanford sophomore Lise L?veill? posted a meet-high 9.925 to take first on beam, and three other Stanford gymnasts scored a 9.9 during the meet. The Cardinal outscored the Golden Bears on each event.
The Cardinal started strong with a 49.175 on vault with two 9.9's by sophomores Kendall Beck and Shelly Goldberg. Freshman Mandy Delgado added to the success with a 9.85. Stanford continued rolling posting a 49.025 on bars with a 9.85 by freshman Lindsay Wing and 9.8's by juniors Alissa Cooper and Abby Gair and senior Becky Meldrum.
The Cardinal notched its best mark of the evening on beam with a 49.275, with L?veill?'s 9.925 and a 9.9 by senior Katy Herbert. Stanford wrapped up the meet with a 48.275 on floor, supported by 9.85's by Delgado and Wing.
The Cardinal return to action on Friday, March 1 in Corvallis, Oregon. The Cardinal is set to square off against the No. 19 Beavers at 7 p.m.
