No. 11 Men's Gymnastics Topples Two Top-20 Teams

Colorado Springs, Colo. - No. 11 Stanford men's gymnastics (6-7) finished with a 209.750 tonight in Colorado Springs, downing No. 15 Illinois-Chicago (201.100) and No. 18 Air Force (203.150). The Cardinal posted season best team scores on rings, vault and high bar en route to its highest season total.

Junior Marshall Erwin, ranked No. 1 on rings nationally, claimed first place on the event tonight by notching a meet-high 9.950.

The Cardinal earned first place on five events, with sophomore Dan Gill taking first on floor with an 8.950 and vault with a new career-high 9.500. Stanford swept the top three spots on the horizontal bar with senior Rico Andrade capturing first (9.300), Gill grabbing second (8.950) and senior Dave Durante rounding out the group at third (8.700). Andrade put up an 8.900 on floor and Durante posted an 8.450 on the pommel horse, both tying for second place.

Freshman Kelly Lang notched a career-best 8.850 on the parallel bars to take first place while senior Cade Raggio recorded a career-high 8.600 for third place.

Junior Matt McLean chalked up one of six Cardinal scores of a 9.0 or above tonight with a 9.100 to capture third place on vault.

Stanford will travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on the top-ranked Sooners on Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. CT. The Cardinal will host two meets next weekend with Temple and Arizona State visiting The Farm on Thursday, March 7 and a rematch against Oklahoma on Saturday, March 9. Both meets are set to begin at 7 p.m.
