Honolulu, Hawai'i - The top-ranked Stanford women's water polo team cruised to a 13-4 victory over No. 12 Hawai'i in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Sunday afternoon at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The Cardinal stay perfect at 11-0 and 3-0 in conference play, while the Rainbow Wahine fall to 7-6 and 1-3 in the league.
Stanford, using its size and strength, scored four goals in the first quarter and never looked back. Hawai'i held the Cardinal to one goal and scored its first of the match in the second period to trail 5-1 at the break.
The Cardinal then put up five goals in the third quarter to take control of the game. Eight different players scored for Stanford, led by junior Julie Gardner (Atherton, CA) who finished with three scores. Brenda Villa (Commerce, CA) recorded two quick goals, putting Stanford up 2-0 to start the game. Goalie Jackie Frank (Long Beach, CA) registered six saves for the Cardinal.
Stanford won't be in action again until its first MPSF home game on Saturday, March 23 against Pacific. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m. in the Avery Aquatic Center.
