Women's Tennis Beats San Diego State, 7-0

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University improved to 10-1 on the season with a 7-0 non-conference home win over San Diego State University (5-4) on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.

The third-ranked Cardinal thoroughly dominated the 44th-ranked Aztecs, losing just eight games in doubles competition and capturing all six singles matches in straight sets.

At No. 1 doubles, Stanford's second-ranked duo of Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, FL/Boca Raton Prep) and Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV/Reno HS) blanked 52nd-ranked Lindsey Hedberg and Silvia Tornier 8-0.

The Cardinal was also impressive in singles play, particularly in the middle of the lineup, where it lost a combined total of only seven games in the Nos. 3-5 slots.

Sophomore Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge HS) won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3, senior Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ/Clifton HS) prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 and sophomore Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson HS) rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5.

The Cardinal returns to action on Friday, March 8 when it visits No. 8 Arizona State (4-1) at 1:30 p.m. (PT). The Aztecs return home to host No. 23 Georgia Tech (7-2) on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
