Berkeley, Ca - Kathleen Donoghue broke the school record in the women's pole vault, while Jessica Pluth tied the school record in the women's hammer to highlight Stanford's participation at the California Open on Saturday at Edwards Stadium.
Meanwhile, at the UC San Diego Invitational, Omer Inan broke the school record in the discus.
Donoghue, a junior from San Diego, vaulted 13-3 1/2 to break her school record set last year by one-half inch. Pluth, a sophomore from Spokane, Wa, threw the hammer 192-11, tying the the original school record by Maureen Onyeagbako in 2001. Pluth's throw is an NCAA provisional mark and fifth-best in the Pac-10 this year. Donoghue's vault also is fifth-best in the conference.
On the day, there were four other winners for Stanford at the Cal Open. Michael Ponikvar tied his season-best in the high jump with a leap of 7-2 1/2. Freshman Jeane Goff won the 800 meters in 2:15.97. Robyn Woolfolk took top honors in the 100 meter hurdles (14.51), while Kim Stone won the high jump (5-7).
At the UC San Diego Invitational, Omer Inan threw the discus a schol record 198-7. That broke the old mark of 196-1 by Glenn Schneider in 1988.
