Cardinal Blank Cal 2-0 In Spring Contest

April 29, 2002

Berkeley, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer team improved to 3-0 in its spring season with a 2-0 shutout to Cal on Sunday afternoon in Berkeley. Goalie Nicole Barnhart (Gilbertsville, PA) has yet to give up a goal, registering her third shutout of the spring.

Becky Myers (St. Charles, IL) put the Cardinal on the scoreboard first, netting a penalty shot in the 55th minute. Marcie Ward (Alamo, CA) was taken down in the box after getting the ball from Lisa Engel (Ventura, CA), setting up Myers for the 1-0 Stanford lead.

Alisan Pabon (Dallas, TX) recorded her first goal of the spring season in the 74th minute on a breakaway with the pass coming from Robyn deHay (Aiea, HI) to put the Cardinal up 2-0.

Late in the game, Barnhart made a great one-handed stop to deny Cal standout Laura Schott and secure the shutout.

"It was the most together performance of the spring," said head coach Andy Nelson. "This sets a very positive platform for the remaining month of the spring season."

The Cardinal will host a game against the alumni on Saturday, May 4 at 3 p.m. on Maloney Field and then travel over to Moraga to face Saint Mary's on May 11 at 11 a.m.
