Stanford, Calif. - Junior Chris Lewis completed 12-of-18 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns and sophomore Teyo Johnson caught six passes for 83 yards and two TDs as the offense (Cardinal) defeated the defense (White) 54-33 in Stanford's annual Spring Game, Saturday at Stanford Stadium.

"I saw a lot of positive things out there today," said first-year Cardinal head coach Buddy Teevens. "The offense looked sharp at times and made some nice plays both running and passing the ball. Chris Lewis did a good job operating the offense and Teyo Johnson showed what he's capable of doing. We were aggressive on defense and were flying after the ball. Overall, I liked what I saw. We have a lot of work to do, but I thought we had a good spring and made some very positive steps, " he said.

Lewis, Stanford's starting quarterback after two years playing behind Randy Fasani, hooked up with Johnson on touchdown passes of 35 and nine yards. Lewis drove the offense 65 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive, connecting with Johnson for the final 35 yards.

The offense scored five touchdowns on the day. Fullback Casey Moore, who carried the ball three times for 24 yards, scored the second TD of the day on a three yard run. Senior wide receiver Ryan Wells scored on a 13-yard run in the third quarter. Wells also added three receptions for 58 yards.

The final TD of the day came in the fourth quarter when reserve quarterback Ryan Eklund hit tight end Alex Smith over the middle on a 27-yard pass play.

Defensively, several new faces made their presence known immediately. Strong safety Oshiomogho Atogwe led the team with seven total tackles while freshman linebacker Jon Alston had four tackles and a pass break up.

New faces in the starting lineup included freshman OLB Michael Craven (three tackles, half-sack), CB Leigh Torrence (four tackles, one interception, one pass break up), OLB Brian Brant (four tackles, one pass break up), freshman DE Michael Lovelady (two sacks), DE Scott Scharff (two sacks) and CB Stanley Wilson (two tackles, one pass break up).
