Woodland, Calif. - Seniors Rico Andrade, David Ludlow and Cade Raggio and juniors Marshall Erwin, Matt McLean and Paul O'Leary were named to the 2002 Men's Gymnastics MPSF Academic All-Conference team today. 23 athletes from the conference were honored, including the six Cardinal gymnasts.Andrade, who will be awarded a double major degree in Communication and Computer Science, posted a team-high 9.350 on horizontal bar this season and posted five scores above a 9.0 on the event to help lead the Cardinal. As one of this year's captains, he performed a brilliant routine on the horizontal bar to claim second against then-No. 2 Oklahoma, cementing the upset victory in the last home meet of his and head coach Sadao Hamada's Stanford careers.
Ludlow struggled with injury throughout his career but returned for his senior campaign and gave the Cardinal a steady presence on the horizontal bar. At the NCAA Qualifier, he posted am 8.850, a career-best that tied for ninth on the day and helped earn the Cardinal a spot at the following day's NCAA Championships. He will graduate with a degree in Psychology.
Raggio, who is earning his degree in Human Biology, put up impressive numbers throughout the season for the Cardinal. As one of the captains, he put up career-best marks on the floor, vault and parallel bars during his senior season.
Erwin, a computer science major, capped off the team's sixth place finish at the NCAA Championships this year with an NCAA Individual title on the rings. He also captured a share of the conference title on the event, and never finished lower than third in any competition this season on rings and posted an impressive 9.950 mark three times during the season.
McLean provided depth for the Cardinal on multiple events and posted impressive career-high marks on the pommel horse, rings, and horizontal bar. A Mechanical Engineering major, McLean posted a personal-best 8.700 on rings in the home upset of the Sooners while O'Leary, a Human Biology major, notched a team-high 9.500 on the parallel bars as the Cardinal downed the eventual national champions in the last meet of the season.
