Cardinal In Fifth Heading Into Final Round of NCAA West Regional

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's golf team shot a 304 in the second round of the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course to move into fifth place with a two-day total of 607. Pepperdine (592) shot a 303 today to remain in first with a three shot lead over UCLA (595) and California (595). Arizona is fourth at 599.

Arizona's Lorena Ochoa shot a two-under par 70 today to take over the top spot on the individual leaderboard with a four-under par 140. Pepperdine's Katherine Hull is second with a two-day total of one-under par 143. Rounding out the top five individuals are Arizona State's Jimin Kang (144), New Mexico's Alena Sharp (144) and Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright (144).

Stanford freshman Wendra Liang shot a four-over par 76 today and is 15th overall with a two-day total of 150. Junior Kim Rowton is one stroke back, tied for 16th, at 151 (76-75). Sophomore Angela Rho shot a 76 today to move up into a tie for 37th with a 154 while teammate Marcia Wallis is one stroke behind her, tied for 42nd at 155. Cardinal Kim Kouwabunpat is tied for 51st overall with a 158 (75-83).

Action concludes tomorrow at the Stanford Golf Course with the top eight teams and two individuals advancing to the 2002 NCAA Women's Golf Championships in Auburn, Washington at the end of the month.

Stanford will tee off from the first tee beginning at 7:30 a.m. for the final round.
