Stanford women's soccer team put up spirited display against Boys U-16 team from Palo Alto, but fell 2-0. The loss marks the first in five spring games for the Cardinal.
The Cardinal played a creditable 90 minutes against the boys of Palo Alto and made it very difficult for their opponents. Stanford got the first shot on goal through Brittany Oliveira and kept great defensive shape throughout the first half to allow the boys team to only couple of chances.
The game opened up a little in the second half and Nicole Barnhart was called on more often. Midway through the second half, Palo Alto scored two quick goals when their pace caused problems for Stanford's defense.
Overall, Stanford's communication was excellent and made it difficult for the boys to unhinge the Cardinal defense.
Stanford finishes out its spring schedule on Thursday, May 23 at Maloney Field against defending national champion Santa Clara. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
