PAC-10 RACE BREAKDOWN
Stanford (14-8 Pac-10) heads into its final two games of the regular season tied for second place with Washington (14-8 Pac-10), 1.0 games behind league leader USC (15-7 Pac-10) and 1.0 games ahead of fourth place Arizona State (13-9 Pac-10). All four teams contending for the Pac-10 title won the opening game of their final regular season series on Friday. Stanford was a 10-0 winner over Washington State. USC outlasted UCLA, 5-4 in 12 innings. Washington came from behind for a 7-3 win over Arizona and Arizona State knocked off Oregon State, 13-7. USC will win the Pac-10 title and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament outright if it wins its remaining two games. Tiebreakers for two teams are determined by head-to-head conference records between the teams. If more than two teams are tied, the first criteria is the combined conference head-to-head records against all tied teams. The next criteria is conference record against the next highest team in the standings and continuing in descending order.

STANFORD-WASHINGTON STATE BASEBALL SERIES HISTORY
Stanford has swept all 10 games between the teams since the Pac-10 expanded to included Washington State prior to the 1999 season and 12 in a row overall in the series. Last year, Stanford swept a three-game set in Pullman (14-6, 19-3, 12-1). Stanford leads the all-time series, 18-13. The last Washington State victory came in the Riverside Tournament in 1978.

Stanford kept pace in the Pac-10 race with a 10-0 victory over Washington State, remaining 1.0 games behind first place USC and tied for second with Washington, both winners on Friday night. Jeremy Guthrie improved his record to 10-1 and extended his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 19, scattering seven hits and striking out six in 7.0 scoreless frames to pick up the victory. Sam Fuld (3-4, 2B, 4 RBI) continued his hot hitting with his 19th multiple-hit game in the last 22 contests. Jason Cooper (3-5, RBI) also had three hits for the Cardinal, while Ryan Garko hit his team-leading 14th homer and drove in three runs.
