Cardinal push their lead to 480 points as the spring championship season begins.

Seven-time Division I Sears Directors Cup champion Stanford University, leading by 399 points at the conclusion of the winter championship season, has now pushed its lead to480 points as the spring championship season begins.
Stanford won two national titles, in women's tennis and water polo, to go along with an 11th place finish in women's golf and a 17th place showing in men's tennis to post 1,369.5 points. The inaugural winner, North Carolina, follows with 889.5 points. The Sears Directors Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It is administered by NACDA and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Florida is in third with 818.5 points; followed by UCLA, in fourth with 810 points; and, Texas in fifth with 751.5 points.
This is the first set of spring standings and includes the sports of women's and men's tennis; women's golf, lacrosse and water polo; and men's volleyball. In addition to Stanford, winning national championships were USC in men's tennis; Duke in women's golf; Princeton in women's lacrosse; and Hawai'i in men's volleyball.
Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 for men and 10 for women. Each national champion receives 100 points. Official standings will be published the end of June upon the completion of the College World Series.
