Honolulu, HI - Three days of racing concluded Friday with Old Dominion University taking the North American title for the first time in over ten years. After 36 races in 5-15 knots of breeze, against 18 schools from 7 disricts, the Cardinal women sailors found themselves in 11th place overall. The team of sophomores is looking forward to their future years at this championship. Jen Porter '04 and Jess Gray '04/Sarah Zukerman '03 ended the series 10th in the competitive A-Division, only two points out of 9th and ten points away from 7th. Ashley Frush '04 and Jenais Zarlin '04/Kara Sweeney '03 shared B-Division with Liz Shearer '04 and crew Taylor Clark '04. The Cardinal B finished 12th overall.
U Hawaii, who Stanford beat at the Pacific Coast qualifiers, finished 2nd at Nationals, a telltale sign of just how tough the fleet was at this year's North American Women's Championship.
The Stanford coed team departs Sunday for the Coed North Americans, to be held at Keehi Lagoon in Honolulu, Hawaii. For more detailed information, see www.collegesailing.org.
