Cardinal In Sixth After Round One Of NCAA West Regional

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford women's golf team shot a 303 today in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Women's Golf West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course. The team is currently in sixth place. Pepperdine leads the field after shooting a one-over par 289 today. Rounding out the top five are UCLA (296), California (297), Arizona (299) and New Mexico (302).

Pepperdine's Katherine Hull has the early lead on the individual leaderboard, posting a three-under par 69 today. New Mexico's Kristi Larson and Arizona's Lorena Ochoa are tied for second at two-under par 70. Larson shot a great back-nine recording a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. Her final three holes were birdie, eagle, birdie. Rounding out the top five are UCLA's Gina Umeck (71) and Pepperdine's Lindsey Wright (71).

The Cardinal have two golfers in the top 25 after the first round. Freshman Wendra Liang is tied for 13th after shooting a two-over par 74 this morning. Sophomore Kim Kouwabunpat is tied for 17th with a 75. Junior Kim Rowton is tied for 26th (76) while teammate Angela Rho is tied for 42nd (78). Sophomore Marcia Wallis is also tied for 42nd (78).

Second round action continues tomorrow with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Stanford Golf Course.
