Stanford, Ca - Grant Robison, a sophomore from San Angelo, Texas, has reached the finals in the 1,500 meters at the 2002 United States Outdoor National Track & Field Championships at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
Robison, who finished fourth at the Pac-10 Championships and gained All-America honors with an eighth place finish, placed seventh in his heat on Friday with a time of 3:43.47. Bryan Berryhill of adidas had the best time in the qualifying heats at 3:42.60.
Robison's best time this year is 3:42.14. The 1,500 meter final is slated for Sunday at 3:36 p.m.
Jesse Thomas qualified for the finals in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a school record time of 8:35.83 in the prelims. The finals are set for Sunday at 2:59 p.m.
Several former Stanford athletes performed well during first day competition. The list included former NCAA champion Chryste Gaines, who won both her heats in the 100 meters, including a 10.96 time in the semifinals. Erica Wheeler finished third in the javelin final, Brad Hauser placed fourth in the 10,000 meter final, and Jason Lunn finished fifth to qualify for Sunday's final in the 1,500 meters.
